Sapa is home to a great diversity of ethnic minority people. It is likely that Sapa was first inhabited by highland minorities of H’mong and Yao group and later came the Tay, Zay, and a small number of Xa Pho to form the 5 main ethnic groups which takes about Eighty-five percent of the district’s population today and a very small number of them live in Sapa town, most of them live in small villages and hamlets scattering in valleys and mountains throughout the district.

HANOI - LAO CAI
Our trip starts with an overnight train journey from Hanoi to the border town of Lao Cai. Our English assistance will pick up & bring you to the Hanoi Station at 120 Le Duan Str., Hanoi for getting on the train departure at 21.55 - 06.00
SAPA – Y LINH HO – LAO CHAI – TA VAN (14 KM TREK) (B/L/D)
06h00: Arrive Lao Cai, our guide pick you up and go by car to go Sapa Welcome to Hotel for Breakfast.
10h00: We leave the hotel and start trekking. The first part is on the road but we soon turn to the right and walk on a small path down the valley to the Muong Hoa River and from here to the Black H’mong village Lao Chai San, Lao Chai. Black H’mong is one of the biggest minority groups in the Sapa area. They are proud of their culture and keep their traditions and way of living. They have their own language and wear traditional indigo blue clothing.
After this you continue to Ta Van village (1.200 m) to visit Zay people. Zay is a fairly small minority group of about 38.000 people who live mainly in the mountains in Northwest Vietnam. The development has meant that some of their old customs have been lost but many women still wear traditional shirts with a purple, blue or green color. The Zay houses are build of wood and bamboo with a clay floor. We stay overnight with a local family in Ta Van and have our dinner here.
TA VAN - GIANG TA CHAI - SEO TRUNG HO (18 KM TREK) (B/L/D)
After the breakfast we continue to visit Red Dao people at Giang Ta Chai where we also see a waterfall. The Red Dao women have very colourful red embroidery and coins on their clothing. On their head they wear a red scarf. Some of the women have shaved off their eyebrows because of a nice Red Zao legend. Hiking along the local trails to go to Seo Trung Ho of Red Zao Village to spend a second night.
HO VILLAGE - SAPA - CAT CAT VILLAGE - NIGHT TRAIN TO HANOI (B/L)
Return Sapa for transferring to Lao Cai train station back to Hanoi departure at 21.05-06.00. Overnight on train.
